• Whiskers and the Pieces of Eight (5-8 years)

Inverness Museum is the setting for this pirate tale as Kate the Curator finds herself drawn into a plot to plunder the Museum's treasures. Will the Viking valuables and Jacobite jewels end up on a ghostly pirate ship? Or will Whiskers, the water vole, save the Museum from impending doom?

This story is based on real exhibits in Inverness Museum and Dylan’s brilliant, detailed illustrations capture the displays and many aspects of the museum’s genuine layout.

For anyone living in or visiting Inverness, an activity leaflet can be requested from the Museum’s reception desk, allowing you to go on a treasure hunt searching for exhibits mentioned in the book. If you’re very lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Cap’n Kate, who was based on the Museum’s dynamic curator, Cait McCullagh.

There is a foreword written by Cait and a glossary at the end of the book to explain tricky words.
